Dallas-based (NYSE:LUV) said it flew 6.73 billiom revenue passenger milesin June, down from 6.88 billionn in the same period a year ago. Revenuer passenger miles, which measure one payinh passenger flownper mile, is the official measur e of airline traffic. The airline’s capacit fell 4 percent in June while itsload factor, or percentage of seats grew more than a percentage point to 79.5 percent. Southwest in the firsyt half of the year saw trafficd drop 2 percentto 36.6 billionj revenue passenger miles from 37.4 billiom last year.
The airline, which carried aboutt 28 percent of all Port Columbuw passengersthrough May, also said it is selling one-way tickets for as low as $30, $60 and $90, depending on how far customers are traveling.
