The 42-year-old was sentenced on Tuesdat in Miami federal court where he also was ordered to forfeigt morethan $11 million in cash and property and pay a $250,00 fine. Caro and his corporation were convictedd in February after a three and a half month It was alleged during the triao that between 2005 and 2008 Caro and employeesx helped construction companies and business people cash checks throughn shell companies in exchange for a percentag ofthe checks, allowing them to bypasx the IRS and othef government agencies.
The transactions totaled more than Through the shell companies and otherrfraudulent schemes, Caro helped employers avoid their financia l obligations by hiding behind shell corporations. “In thesew hard times, we must take particular steps to ensure that employersd andothers don’t shirk their financial responsibilities,” Jeffrey H. Sloman, actinv U.S. Attorney said in a news , two other defendants in the case – Jose Jorgde Chaoui, 48, and Alfredo Filomenk Gonzalez, 47, pleaded guilty. They are set to be sentencec on Sept. 1.
